KIKS/Girlfriend is pleased to present its 21’st cassette edition by Buenos Aires based Qype Dikir aka one Malcolm Delaney. Following on from the release of our Alan Courtis Lathe Cut 10” last year we became aware of Malcolm as a compatriot of the Buenos Aires experimental music community and took an instant shine to his hermetic, explorative process based works.
The sounds on this latest release are deeply focussed, tactile immersions into a synthetic sound world that feels incredibly primordial. Working intuitively within prepared parameters, it feels like Delaney has tapped in to a latent sound world which defies specific era in electronic experimental music. Echoes of the likes of Vasilisk or Beaumont Hannant can be discerned just below the surface in various moments yet this all works to consolidate a sense of integrity and dedication within the project to the artistic and philosophical process applied over the pointless exercise of vain imitation for imitations sake. This is a valuable introduction to an artist that is still developing in breadth yet works in a mature and considered way, the outcome being a series of recordings which serve as a form of research evidence which draw you in for further contemplation.
